Simon Winston Smith

Simon Winston Smith has enjoyed a distinguished investment banking career, working with pre-eminent investment houses in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney. Before co-founding Ascienta Simon was a partner in the boutique Asia Principal Capital. Prior to this he was Chief Operating Officer and Head of Capital Markets at Greenway Capital, and Managing Director and Co-Head of Japanese Equities at JP Morgan Chase, Japan, and before that spent nearly 10 years with Goldman Sachs & Co. At JP Morgan he was a member of both the Equities Asia Pacific Management Committee and the firm-wide JP Morgan, Japan Management Committee.

At Goldman Sachs Simon established and led the Australian Equities business in 2000 and, with his team, secured a Top 10 position in the Australian equities market within a remarkable 18 months.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Simon held portfolio management and analytical responsibilities with Rothschild Asset Management Asia Pacific in both Tokyo and Hong Kong.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Arts (Japanese and Economics) from the University of Queensland and is a Chartered Financial Analyst with the CFA Institute.

David Sherbon

David Sherbon’s analytic skills and strategic expertise were honed in a corporate leadership career taking in financial services, , FMCG and communications. David was a founding partner of an international private equity firm. He has held corporate roles as Executive General Manager for CSR, where he ingrained strategy and customer focus into one of the world’s largest building materials business. He held management roles in market research, strategy and integrated communication with Shell-BP, Colgate-Palmolive and Interpublic Group. He also co-founded and developed Fortune Communications, Australia’s fastest growing and largest independent ad agency, before selling to Saatchi and Saatchi and Dentsu Japan. He founded and chaired a range of consulting companies that became the multi-disciplinary Synthesis Consulting Group. He continues to found, fund, invest in, advise and sell businesses.

David has an Honours Degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Manchester; a Master’s Degree from the Macquarie Graduate School of Business; and has completed Oxford University’s unique Valuation Program and Stanford Business School programs in Financial Management Strategic Negotiation and Strategic marketing. His pro bono work includes fundraising for The Shepherd Foundation and over 20 years association with The State Library of NSW as a Board Member, Chairman of Finance Committee and as a Govenor Benefactor
